Under direct and indirect supervision, Police Officers: perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; control traffic and investigate vehicle collisions; enforce state and local traffic regulations, laws and ordinances; community outreach and engagement; and perform related work as assigned or required.

Police Officers assigned to patrol work an 8-day work cycle consisting of four days on and four days off (11-hour shifts). The 11-hour shift includes a paid 50-minute meal period and one-hour paid physical fitness period.

The first portion of your career with the Fremont Police Department are under probationary status. This limits the officer to their primary assignment or patrol duties. These duties include:

  • Operate motorized equipment while patrolling or walk an assigned area for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of laws and regulations.
  • Respond to radio messages or telephone instructions and appear at scenes of crime or disorder.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, offenses and damage to property.
  • Make arrests, issue citations and direct traffic.
  • Intervene in private or public disputes to protect the public and maintain order.
  • Serve subpoenas and warrants.
  • Write case reports and a log of activities.
  • Interrogate victims, witnesses and suspects.
  • Appear in court to present evidence, and otherwise assist in criminal investigations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
